Don't Trust People, Trust God

 Don't Trust People, Trust God

A family bible study by Keith M. Craddock

In a world where people often disappoint and fail us, it's easy to get caught up in the idea that we can't trust anyone. But the truth is, our trust shouldn't be in people anyway. Our trust should be in God.

The Deceitfulness of the Human Heart

In Jeremiah 17:9, we read:
"The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?"
The human heart is capable of great deceit and manipulation. We can't always trust what people say or do, because their hearts may be motivated by selfish desires.

Cursed is the One Who Trusts in Man

In Jeremiah 17:5, we read:
"This is what the Lord says: 'Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.'".
When we trust in people instead of God, we're setting ourselves up for disappointment and heartache.

Trust in the Lord

In Psalm 118:8, we read:
"It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans."
And in Proverbs 3:5, we're reminded:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
God is the only one who is completely trustworthy. He's the only one who will never disappoint or fail us.

Trusting God in Times of Uncertainty

In Psalm 62:8, we read:
"Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge."
Even in times of uncertainty and chaos, we can trust God. We can pour out our hearts to Him, knowing that He's our refuge and our strength.

Loving One Another, But Trusting God

In John 13:34, Jesus commands us:
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
While we're called to love one another, our trust shouldn't be in people. Our trust should be in God.

Blessed is the One Who Trusts in the Lord

In Jeremiah 17:7, we read:
"But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him."
When we trust in God, we're blessed. We're confident in His goodness and His love.

God Remains Faithful

In Romans 3:3, we read:
"What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness?"
Even when people fail us, God remains faithful. He's always trustworthy, always reliable.

Conclusion

Don't trust people, trust God. He's the only one who will never disappoint or fail you. Pour out your heart to Him, and trust in His goodness and love.

Reflection Questions

  • Who or what are you trusting in right now?
  • How can you shift your trust from people to God?
  • What does it mean to you to trust in God's goodness and love?

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to trust in you alone. May our confidence be in your goodness and love, and may we never put our trust in people. You are faithful, even when others are not. Help us to pour out our hearts to you, and to trust in your sovereignty. In Jesus' name, Amen.
How's this draft? I've used the scriptures to create a narrative that encourages readers to trust in God alone, and to beware of putting their trust in people. Let me know if you'd like me to make any changes!
